Data Center Maintenance in Mexico
The difference between a data center that runs for 10 years and one that goes dark after 3 isn’t the UPS brand or the AC model. It’s the maintenance.
Why maintenance matters more than the equipment
The industry has a saying that gets repeated over and over: “buying the best UPS and forgetting about the batteries for three years is worse than buying a mediocre one and servicing it on schedule.” It’s true. An unmaintained UPS protects nothing when it’s actually needed. A generator that never gets tested under load fails to start. A miscalibrated temperature sensor reports “everything’s fine” while a server room overheats.
Maintenance is not just another operational expense. It’s the line of defense between your data center operating and your data center going down. Unplanned outages cost between USD $50,000 and $300,000 per event in mid-sized data centers across LATAM, depending on duration and the services affected.
What a real maintenance program covers
A well-designed data center maintenance program covers all critical infrastructure at defined frequencies, with verifiable metrics and complete documentation. The main components are:
- Power systems — Online UPS, battery modules, PDUs, automatic transfer switches (ATS). Includes impedance testing, infrared thermography, and scheduled battery discharge.
- Cooling and precision HVAC — Precision air conditioning units, chillers, free cooling, in-row and rear-door systems. Sensor calibration, coil cleaning, airflow analysis (CFM per cabinet).
- Diesel generators — Weekly no-load start, monthly real-load test for at least 30 minutes (no-load doesn’t count), annual oil and filter changes, oil analysis by spectrometry.
- Electrical distribution — Switchgear, busbars, connections. Infrared thermography to detect hot spots before they become failures.
- Fire suppression system — Smoke and gas detectors, suppression agents, full-system tests in simulated mode.
- Environmental and electrical monitoring — Temperature, humidity, airflow, and power sensors. Calibration verification and alert validation.
- Physical infrastructure — Raised floor, structured cabling, racks, cable penetrations. Quarterly visual inspection.
Preventive, corrective, and predictive: the three layers
Maintenance is not one thing. It’s three complementary layers:
Preventive maintenance
It’s the foundation. Scheduled inspections, cleanings, calibrations, and replacements with a defined calendar. Each activity is documented with its log entry. The goal is to keep infrastructure within operating specifications and detect wear before it becomes a failure.
Corrective maintenance
It’s the response when something fails despite preventive care. Drives die, electronic cards burn out, compressors stop compressing. A rapid-response team with critical spare parts available reduces downtime from hours to minutes.
Predictive maintenance
It’s the most advanced layer. It uses continuous monitoring data (vibration, temperature, consumption, impedance) to anticipate failures before they occur. What used to be “replace the battery every 3 years on the calendar” is now “replace the battery when its impedance rises 15% above baseline.” Fewer unnecessary replacements, fewer surprise failures.
How Noxtel works
Noxtel delivers data center maintenance in Mexico under a managed service model with contractual SLAs. Scope includes:
- Initial assessment — evaluation of your infrastructure’s current state, risk identification, and metric baseline.
- Annual maintenance plan — scheduling of activities by system, frequency assignment, and responsible parties.
- Execution with documentation — every visit is logged with findings, measurements, and recommendations.
- Continuous monitoring — environmental and electrical sensors with threshold-based alerts.
- 24/7 emergency response — incident response with SLA-guaranteed arrival time.
- Monthly reports — plan compliance metrics, trends, and investment recommendations.
We work with data centers of all sizes: from a single-rack telecommunications room to enterprise operations with multiple sites. Plans are tailored to each client’s risk profile, budget, and criticality.
Need an assessment of your data center?
If you want to know the current state of your infrastructure and the operational risks you face today, we can schedule a free diagnostic call. We evaluate your data center, deliver a report with prioritized findings, and, if you want, send you a tailored maintenance plan proposal.
