How to Install a Precision Air Conditioner for Small Rooms
These 3 Checklists are designed for Direct Expansion DX Equipment from 3 to 10 TR, but may be applicable to other scenarios.
This document will be especially useful for those who are installing a precision HVAC / CRAR air conditioner for the first time and do not know where to start: This is a Quick Guide to Know everything you HAVE to Know to not “mess up”.
This Quick Guide is divided into 3 Sections:
👉 Electrical, Condenser, and Logistics.
These units use Refrigerant Gas, in a process similar to that of automobiles. These units must operate 24 x 7 x 365 and offer the best SLA or Level of Service and are used for Mission Critical.
We recommend using this checklist to make an “inventory” with the most accurate information possible. This will help to obtain a detailed quote and plan the installation efficiently.
If any of the following questions cannot be answered, it is recommended to schedule a technical site survey to evaluate the site and provide the necessary recommendations.
Remember that gathering complete and accurate information not only facilitates the quoting process, but also contributes to a successful and trouble-free installation.
1. ELECTRICAL
- Operating Voltage (110v, 220v, 480v): Specify the voltage available at the site.
- Is it single-phase or three-phase?: Confirm the type of electrical connection available.
- Does the electrical panel exist? Does it have the capacity to install the equipment?: Verify if the current electrical panel can support the equipment load.
- Is the electrical power supply stable? Are there known power quality issues (e.g., voltage drops, surges)?: Identify if there are electrical stability issues that need to be addressed.
- The electrical breakers are supplied by the customer or the provider: Specify who will provide the necessary breakers.
Note: Providing accurate information about electrical conditions is crucial to ensure the safety and correct operation of the equipment. If you are unsure about any aspect, a technical site survey can help determine the exact electrical requirements.
2. CONDENSER
- Has the location to install the Condenser been defined?: Describe the exact location where the condenser will be installed.
- Approximate distance between the evaporator and the condenser: Provide an estimate of the required piping length.
- Are there access points or wall penetrations to install the piping? If not, will new ones need to be created?: Determine if there are already conduits available or if they must be created.
- Is there an adequate drainage system adecuado? (for dehumidification subsystem)
- Ensure there is sufficient space around the condenser for its optimal operation and proper maintenance.
- Is the installation site free of obstacles and accessible for installation?
Note: The correct installation of the condenser and the management of the condensate drain are essential for the equipment’s performance and to avoid problems such as water accumulation. A technical site survey can confirm the site conditions if this information is not available.
3. LOGISTICS
- Is there any layout or plan of the room or area where the equipment will be installed?: Provide plans or drawings of the space to facilitate planning.
- Is it a new site or an existing site? If it is existing, is it necessary to remove any other equipment?: Determine if there is old equipment that must be uninstalled.
- Approximate installation date (mandatory): Indicate when you want the installation to be carried out. Please note that delivery times may vary depending on equipment availability.
- Recommended Brand / Manufacturers: Vertiv, APC Schneider, Stulz, Hi-Ref, Attom, Rittal, etc.
- Location (State, City, Zone) where the equipment must be delivered/installed: Specify the exact location to coordinate logistics and quote freight.
- Will the equipment be installed immediately upon arrival at the Site or is there a specific timeframe for the installation?: Confirm if there is a specific timeframe to start the installation after delivery.
- Indicate if it will be required to use a crane or special equipment to place the Condenser in its installation location: Determine if special tools are needed for the installation.
- Is there easy access for delivery and installation trucks, or are there access restrictions we should consider?: Identify any access restrictions that could affect delivery or installation.
Please consider that each manufacturer has different manufacturing and procurement processes. It is important to consider that Inventory may vary between the Quote Date and the Purchase Order Date. Stock is very dynamic.
Remember that most equipment must be started up by the Manufacturer. The installation must be carried out according to the Manufacturer’s technical specifications. Otherwise, the warranty becomes invalid.
