Vertiv, after separating from Emerson Electric in 2016 as an independent company, consolidated a global manufacturing network that combines legacy plants inherited from the parent with newer acquisitions. Vertiv’s manufacturing footprint covers five regions with strategic plants in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Europe, and Asia. The distribution by product line responds to logistics cost decisions, target market, and the company’s global supply chain strategy.

Main manufacturing plants

The key plants in Vertiv’s current portfolio are:

1. Lincoln, Nebraska (United States): manufacturing of large UPS units (NXL, EXL S1) and low-voltage switchgear. One of the brand’s historical plants, with decades of continuous operation.
2. Westerville, Ohio (United States): corporate headquarters and engineering center. Limited manufacturing; focus on R&D and prototypes.
3. Albuquerque, New Mexico (United States): manufacturing of CDU (Coolant Distribution Units) and liquid cooling components.
4. Tijuana, Mexico: manufacturing of Geist PDUs and some UPS sub-assemblies. Serves as an export hub to the United States and a supply source for the Mexican market.
5. Reynosa, Tamaulipas (Mexico): one of Vertiv’s largest factories in the world for mass cooling systems (liquid cooling, high-capacity chillers) and low-voltage switchgear. Serves as an export hub to North America and as a strategic plant for the Mexican and Latin American markets.
6. Cotia, São Paulo (Brazil): manufacturing of precision air-conditioning units and sub-assemblies for the South American market. Vertiv’s largest plant in Latin America.
7. Donegal and Derry, Ireland (from the E&I Engineering acquisition, 2022): manufacturing of industrial switchgear and power conversion solutions for the European and Middle East markets.
8. Shenzhen, China: manufacturing of components and lower-capacity units for the Asian market.
9. Pune, India: manufacturing of UPS and PDU for local market and export.

The Latin American footprint

For Mexican and Latin American customers, the three most relevant plants are Tijuana, Reynosa, and Cotia:

1. Tijuana manufactures Geist PDUs and some sub-assemblies. Reynosa operates mass cooling systems and switchgear. The location of both plants facilitates exports to the United States and supply to the Mexican market at competitive lead times.
2. Cotia is Vertiv’s largest plant in the region. It manufactures Liebert precision air-conditioning units for all of South America, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico. Its capacity allows regional customization.

The existence of a regional plant in Brazil reduces lead times for South American customers compared with alternatives that only produce in Asia or the United States. For Mexican customers, the balance between Tijuana and Reynosa (local) and Cotia (regional) offers interesting geographic redundancy.

Service and support centers

In addition to manufacturing plants, Vertiv operates a network of service centers in the main cities of Latin America:

1. Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara: service centers with certified technicians for commissioning, maintenance, and emergency response.
2. São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Bogotá, Lima: regional coverage with local staff.
3. Critical spare-parts inventory: each service center maintains an inventory of high-rotation parts (cards, fans, capacitors, power modules).

What Vertiv does not manufacture

Vertiv does not manufacture electronic components at the chip level or semiconductors. Its manufacturing is integration: it purchases components from specialized suppliers (capacitors, IGBTs, fans, sensors) and integrates them into its final products. This is the industry norm, but it is important to keep in mind when evaluating supply chain risks.
