Google Cloud and Its Impact in Latam

Google Cloud is making significant progress in Latin America, strengthening its commitment to driving digital transformation, innovation in artificial intelligence, and economic growth across the region. While we are often asked about new infrastructure, let’s take a broader look at our impact and future plans.

The Ongoing Presence and Evolution of Google Cloud in Chile

Sources do not announce the launch of a new Google Cloud region in Chile. However, it is important to recognize Google's existing presence and ongoing commitment in the country. In 2018, Google chose Chile as its regional hub.

The construction of data centers, including Google's, in drought-affected areas like Chile has raised concerns about water usage. Communities in places like Cerrillos, Santiago, have expressed worries about the amount of water needed for cooling towers. In response to these protests, Google agreed to implement a cooling system that uses less water for its data center in Chile. It is worth noting that other major cloud providers, such as Microsoft, have recently opened new cloud regions in Chile.

Broader Investments and Developments in Latin America

Google is significantly deepening its commitment to Latin America. The company has announced a substantial investment of 1.2 billion dollars in Latin America and the Caribbean over the next five years. This commitment includes a multifaceted project that will be launched in El Salvador.

A key part of this expansion is Google’s $850 million investment in its second data center in Latin America, which will be located in Uruguay. This facility is designed to serve as a hub for AI advancements and cloud solutions, and it is expected to create 50 permanent jobs once operational. Although these water consumption figures are preliminary, Google states that it is actively working with national and local authorities during the exploratory phase.

Google platforms, including Google Cloud, are already generating significant economic benefits in the region. In 2023 alone, they created an economic impact of 37 billion dollars in Brazil and more than 15 billion in Mexico.

Recognizing Excellence: Google Cloud Partner Awards to Globant

A sign of the growing ecosystem around Google Cloud in Latin America is the recognition of key partners. Globant recently received two prestigious awards: the Google Cloud Country Partner of the Year 2025 for Argentina and the Talent Development Partner of the Year for Latin America. This is the second consecutive year Globant has won the Talent Development award. These honors highlight Globant’s expertise in using Google Cloud services and its dedication to training and improving skills of its workforce in Latin America in cutting-edge cloud technologies, including generative AI.

The AI Revolution: 90 Inspiring Cases in Latin America

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future promise but a tangible reality transforming businesses in Latin America. Google Cloud has identified 90 AI use cases in the region that inspire innovation. Studies show a rapid increase in AI adoption, with over 40% of respondents in Chile and Mexico having used AI in the past year, and more than 90% of companies in Mexico already using AI in at least one business process.

These AI applications cover a wide range of categories, including:

• Customer Service and Customer Relationship: Companies like Albo (Mexico) are using AI to optimize customer service and financial education, providing faster and more efficient responses. Banco Covalto (Mexico) has reduced credit onboarding times by more than 90% thanks to generative AI. Mercado Libre (Argentina) has significantly improved product recommendations and search using semantic search capabilities powered by Vertex AI.

• Workforce Ecosystem and Productivity: Natura (Brazil) used Google Workspace to migrate 20,000 employees and adopted Gemini in Workspace to improve efficiency and productivity. LATAM Airlines (Chile) is automating data management and governance with AI to enhance the customer experience.

• Security: Bradesco (Brazil), one of the largest banks in Brazil, is using Google Cloud AI to detect suspicious activities and fight money laundering more effectively.

• Data Processing: Alicorp (Peru) has improved the management of structured and unstructured data, speeding up video analysis and decision-making processes using generative AI.

• Creative Agents: Yuna (Brazil) is using Google Cloud AI technologies like Gemini, Imagen, and Vertex AI to create interactive and personalized cinematic books for children.

Trends and Challenges in Cloud Adoption in Latin America

Companies in Latin America are increasingly adopting cloud computing, AI, and machine learning to support their strategic growth, with digital transformation as a constant focus. The region is experiencing a shift in strategies, with companies turning more and more to external partners, like Managed Service Providers (MSPs), at a faster pace than the global average to accelerate their digitization processes.

Although cloud adoption offers significant benefits in efficiency, sustainability, and flexibility, companies in Latin America still face challenges related to cloud cost optimization, security, and talent shortage. However, major investments and innovations are making the cloud increasingly suitable for businesses in the region, accelerating business transformation. Sustainability is also a growing priority, driving the adoption of technologies that improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

Looking Ahead

Google Cloud remains committed to supporting the digital evolution of Latin America. The combination of strategic investments in infrastructure, strong partner ecosystems, and widespread AI adoption is transforming businesses and industries, promising an even more innovative future for the region.
