Vertiv, Emerson, and Liebert: One Brand, Multiple Legacies

In the world of critical infrastructure, some names come up frequently: Liebert, Emerson, and Vertiv. Are they different companies? Not exactly. In fact, they tell the same story of evolution, innovation, and transformation. Let’s explore this journey together.

The Birth of Liebert

It all began in 1965, when Liebert Corporation it was founded in the United States. From the beginning, the company specialized in two key technologies: UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning).

Las UPS are systems that provide backup electrical power. They activate when there is a power outage, protecting critical equipment. The systems CRAC, on the other hand, maintain the proper temperature and humidity in data centers.

For several decades, Liebert became a leader in these sectors. Its products were reliable, innovative, and widely recognized.

Emerson Enters the Scene

In the year 2000, the giant Emerson Electric acquired Liebert. This Missouri-based company was known for integrating high-level technological solutions. After the acquisition, Liebert became part of a larger division: Emerson Network Power.

With this integration, Emerson brought together several specialized brands in critical infrastructure, including Chloride (power), Avocent (remote management), and of course, Liebert. This created a comprehensive offering for data centers: from power backup to intelligent monitoring.

The Birth of Vertiv

However, the story doesn’t end there. In 2016, Emerson decided to sell its Emerson Network Power division to the firm Platinum Equity. The following year, in 2017, this division was relaunched under a new name: Vertiv.

Since then, Vertiv has continued offering the same products and technologies. Equipment labeled as “Liebert” or “Emerson Liebert” can still often be found, especially in older catalogs or existing installations. However, all those products now belong to Vertiv.

Why so many names?

The reason is simple: it’s the same company that has changed its name as it evolved. Liebert was the original brand. Emerson represented the consolidation phase. Vertiv is the current name, focused on innovation, digitalization, and sustainability.

For example, a UPS system marketed today as Vertiv™ Liebert® GXT5 combines Liebert’s legacy with the modern Vertiv brand. Although some may call it the “Emerson UPS,” they all refer to the same product line.

A Legacy That Continues

In summary, when you see a Liebert, Emerson, or Vertiv product, think of one story. It’s a story spanning more than 50 years, full of changes but with a constant mission: to protect and optimize the critical infrastructure of the digital world..

Because, even though the names change, the innovation remains the same.
